SUMMARY:MD/DC APT Workshop: Healing Medical Trauma in Play Therapy
DESCRIPTION:In this 6-hour workshop\, play therapists will explore medical trauma from the perspective of neuroscience and interpersonal neurobiology while drawing from Gestalt Play Therapy\, Synergetic Play Therapy and Nature Based Play principles.  Using creative play-based ways to support children and their family’s healing process\, participants will learn how to create emotional and relational safety for trauma integration.  They will learn what it means to become a child’s external regulator to help integrate the activation in a child’s nervous system while safely allowing the child to access the stored trauma in their body from the medical trauma. As children are not the only ones affected by medical trauma\, care for their caregivers will also be addressed\, as well as an exploration of creative play-based ways to help the entire family system heal.   \nIn addition to learning about medical trauma and its symptoms\, this workshop will also explore the difference between the role of a play therapist and the role of a Child Life Specialist in a medical setting allowing play therapists a greater knowledge in knowing how and when to collaborate with the medical team if a child is going to be experiencing a medical procedure or if the child is in on-going medical care. \nIf you would like your school or organization to receive training\, please contact the Institute at info@synergeticplaytherapy.com

SUMMARY:AIRS Keynote Presentation- Leadership Starts with You: Becoming Your Business's Emotional Regulator
DESCRIPTION:The focus of this 1 hour keynote presentation is to inspire leaders to understand the critical role they play in the health and well-being of their organization in a way that they may have never considered.  That they are indeed the “emotional regulator” for their teams and staff\, helping ground the organization itself and the individuals working in it.  They will be invited to view their organization through the lens of neuroscience and nervous system regulation\, as they learn about the brain\, stress\, and the impact their own nervous system activation has on others and even on the growth of the organization.  Most importantly\, they will be inspired as they learn about self care\, the management of their own internal states\, their ability to regulate other’s emotions and how to help the organization stay steady.  The result of this powerful keynote presentation is a deeper awareness of what self care for themselves and their staff really is and ultimately\, what it means to be a leader.

SUMMARY:Northern California Play Therapy Conference KEYNOTE- Playing Perfectly: A Play Therapist's Guide for Working with OCD in Play Therapy
DESCRIPTION:From perfectionism to anxiety to self-doubt\, the world of a child struggling with OCD can be incredibly overwhelming. Come explore how to support these children in play therapy and discover how their need for perfection is in fact perfect. \nDrawing from Gestalt\, Cognitive Behavioral\, and Synergetic Play Therapy theories\, this workshop is filled with non-directive and directive play based interventions to help support play therapists on a path to understand the perfection in these children’s perfection\, while teaching the child how to do the same.  Play therapists will take a deeper look at the regulatory function of the child’s behaviors that manage the internal conflicts and anxieties these children often carry.  Through discussion and experiential exercises\, play therapists will learn how to separate the underlying drivers from the wisdom of the rituals themselves.  With this knowledge\, play therapists will learn how to use themselves and many forms of play to help these children access an understanding of the greatest perfection that exists\, the child just as they are.

SUMMARY:Private Training for Teton Behavior Therapy: A Synergetic Approach to Revolutionizing Play & Therapeutic Practice with Children
DESCRIPTION:A Synergetic Approach to Revolutionizing Play & Therapeutic Practice with Children \nThis two day workshop is designed to help play therapists understand aggressive play from a neuro-biological perspective. With the help of neuroscience\, interpersonal neurobiology\, and a Synergetic Play Therapy framework rooted in Child-Centered\, Gestalt and Experiential Play Therapy theories\, therapists will learn how to effectively work with aggressive play in a way that supports nervous system regulation\, reorganization of the child’s lower centers of the brain and promote healing for the child.  Through role play\, discussion\, and experiential exercises participants will learn practical techniques that can be used right away in the playroom. Topics such as boundaries\, co-regulation\, nervous system activation\, emotional flooding and use of aggressive toys and play will be explored. \nThis workshop will also guide participants towards a deeper understanding of what it means to become a child’s external regulator during aggressive play while practicing how to care for their own nervous system thereby decreasing compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma.  The result is the transformation of aggression into ways of connecting\, healing and mutual trust. \nThis is a private training for Teton Behavior Therapy on 9/13 and 9/15. \nIf you would like your school or organization to receive training\, please contact the Institute at info@synergeticplaytherapy.com

SUMMARY:CBCTAPT Workshop: Too Stressed To Play
DESCRIPTION:Therapists live each day on the front line in their work putting in countless hours helping children heal\, but let’s be honest- there are days when being fully present in the play room or online is not an easy task. Yes there are many moments in the play therapy process that are fun\, but the truth is that helping children integrate their pains and working with their parents can be hard work and taxing to therapists’ nervous systems. As play therapists\, we spend a lot of time learning about how to heal the children we work with\, but what about us? What happens when we are too stressed to play? \nThis interactive workshop will help guide therapists back to themselves. With the help of neuroscience\, therapists will learn how to identify their own states of dys-regulation beyond the common warning signs that many therapists are already familiar with. Therapists will not only learn what is happening in their own brains and nervous systems and how to regulate their bodies\, but will also be able to apply the information directly to their child clients resulting in a deeper healing process. \nLink to register: https://forms.gle/WE9tuC5JCb2rUWjLA

SUMMARY:Core Wellness Webinar with Liana Lowenstein: Tips and Techniques to Address Anger and Dysregulation
DESCRIPTION:Research in neuroscience and interpersonal neurobiology sheds light on the need for therapists and parents to act as the child’s external regulator during states of dysregulation. When activated\, children need to borrow the therapist’s and the parent’s regulatory capacity as they work through their challenging thoughts\, feelings and sensations. Without the ability of the therapist or the parent to become the external regulator for the intensity that arises for the child\, both the child and the adult are at risk for emotional flooding and high levels of dysregulation in their own nervous systems. Over time\, this can significantly impact a therapist’s and parent’s ability to stay attuned and present to the child. In this discussion\, from a Synergetic Play Therapy lens\, Lisa will discuss what it means and what it takes to become a child’s external regulator. \nLisa will be presenting this webinar as part of a three-part series moderated by Liana Lowenstein which includes a mix of theory and innovative child and play therapy techniques to address challenging clinical issues. \nSign up for the workshop here: https://corewellceu.com/event/live-tips-anger1/?shop=1057 \nOr for the entire series: https://corewellceu.com/livebundles/tips-live/?shop=1057

SUMMARY:Private Event: Becoming a Child’s External Regulator- A Synergetic Approach to Education for Teachers and Educators
DESCRIPTION:This is a private event hosted by the BC Centre for Ability Association and will be from 6:00pm-8:00pm PDT each night. \n \nAs neuroscience continues to reveal the importance of developing greater and greater capacities for emotional regulation\, it is essential that teachers and educators understand the biology behind regulation and how to develop it within the children in their classrooms.  Participants will understand exactly what regulation is and is not\, the biological mechanisms in the brain and nervous system allowing for regulation\, and what it takes to become a child’s and the classroom’s external regulator to develop a child’s regulatory capacity.\n\n \nBased on interpersonal neurobiology and Synergetic Play Therapy principles\, this workshop takes participants into a deeper understanding of the children they work with\, as well as themselves as they discover a fresh perspective on behavior\, moods\, and emotions.\n\nObjectives: \n1. Participants will be able to identify how the brain processes information\, activates the different states of the nervous system and the impact this has on children’s moods and behaviors \n2.  Participants will understand what it means and what it takes to become a child’s external regulator. \n3.  Participants will learn how the environment contributes to a child’s ability to self-regulate \n4.  Participants will gain insight into how to develop or repattern a child’s regulatory capacity \n\n\nIf you would like your school or organization to receive training\, please contact the Institute at info@synergeticplaytherapy.com
