Co-regulating with Caregivers: Becoming an External Regulator for Caregivers in Play Therapy (2 Hr. Workshop, PTUK)
September 25, 2025
Join Lisa online for a 2 hour workshop September 25 hosted by Play Therapy United Kingdom (PTUK) on Co-regulating with Caregivers: Becoming an External Regulator for Caregivers in Play Therapy.
The caregivers of our play therapy clients play a pivotal role in the play therapy process. Learning to involve them successfully requires a specific skill set often overlooked in the training of play therapists. This workshop is designed to teach you how to become a caregiver’s external regulator, the most essential foundational skill necessary to begin to partner effectively with caregivers. Topics such as the steps for how to co-regulate with a caregiver, working with emotional flooding, and caregiver resistance will be explored.
Objectives:
- Discuss what it means to become a caregiver’s external regulator
- Explore what caregiver resistance is and what it is not
- Discuss the significance of identifying emotional flooding within the caregiver and with the play therapist
