5 WAYS TO AVOID EMOTIONAL FLOODING IN THE PLAYROOM

Get immediate access to a 30-minute training with a twist! Emotional flooding is part of every play therapy experience because it’s part of every human experience. But that doesn’t mean we’re at its mercy, stuck outside the window of tolerance looking in. Observational statements, boundaries, and regulation all play a role in working with emotional flooding – both your client’s and yours too!

WELCOME TO THE

SYNERGETIC PLAY THERAPY INSTITUTE™

THE PLAY THERAPY INSTITUTE OF COLORADO HAS EVOLVED!

Our story began ten years ago at the La Quinta Inn Conference Room in Louisville, Colorado with a vision of offering quality education while transforming the inner lives of professionals so that they can help children transform. We soon realized that the need was much greater than we had anticipated. As the phone rang and classes filled, we chose to adapt. Why? Because relationship, community, and helping people discover themselves are what drives what we do.

The part of our story that fills my heart is our continued commitment to creating services where services are requested. My team knows that as long as someone somewhere finds value in what we offer, we will keep going. Our growth has been organic as we have responded to the direct requests of our students, much like an attuned dance between two people. We listen, we feel, we adapt, we respond, and we do it all while maintaining a core sense of who we are.

Just as we outgrew the La Quinta Inn, we also outgrew our name. Now that Synergetic Play Therapy™ has a global reach with the phone still ringing, it makes sense that becoming the Synergetic Play Therapy Institute™ is the next adaptation of our story.

From my heart to yours, thank you.

Managing Aggression in the Playroom Using Synergetic Play Therapy

Although aggression is a common part of the play therapy process, many therapists don’t have a clear understanding of what to do and how to facilitate the intensity when it enters the playroom during play. The result can lead to inadvertently promoting aggression and increasing low brain disorganization.

THE BOOK – AGGRESSION IN PLAY THERAPY

Offers play therapists practical ways of handling a pervasive issue with intense and aggressive play by their clients.

With an understanding of aggressive play based on brain function and neuroscience, this book provides therapists with a framework to work authentically with aggressive play, while making it an integrative and therapeutic experience for the child.

Through the lens of neuroscience and interpersonal neurobiology, therapists are taught how to integrate the intensity experienced by both the child and the therapist during aggressive play in a way that leads towards greater healing and integration. The book explains the neurological processes that lead kids to dysregulation and provides therapists with tools to help their clients facilitate deep emotional healing, without causing their own nervous system to shut down.

Topics covered include: embracing aggression; understanding the nervous system; understanding regulation; developing yourself as an external regulator; authentic expression; setting boundaries; working with emotional flooding; supporting parents during aggressive play.
