Synergetic Play Therapy Foundation Scholarship Application
From exchange rates, living in war zones, needing to travel large distances, socio-economic influences, working in settings that pay lower wages, underrepresented minorities, or marginalized populations, we recognize that there are many reasons that can make play therapy training cost prohibitive for an individual.

General Information

- Applications open November 1, 2026, and close February 28, 2027. *Applications may close early if cap is met.
- Scholarship funds are distributed from a limited pool, therefore, the SPT Foundation caps the number of applications accepted. Apply early!
- Applicants will be notified by the end of March following the submission deadline, at which point applicants will have 30 days to accept the award or the award will be forfeited.
- Scholarship funds will not be awarded for a training or course with a start date prior to April 1st of the award year.
- Awards are competitive and determined based on a number of variables including strength of application, availability of funds, and total number of applicants in each award cycle. The strength of an application is determined based on the following criteria: (1) Writing Quality, (2) Financial Need, (3) Impact on Clients and/or Community, (4) Demonstration of how the recipient will demonstrate impact to the Foundation post training.
- Select scholarships demonstrating greatest need and alignment with the SPTF mission will be awarded up to 50% of the registration cost for the identified play therapy training/course. Historically, less than 10% of applications are awarded the full 50%, other awardees have received partial scholarships of less than 50% the total cost.
- Funds will be sent directly to the organization identified in the scholarship application. Funds will NOT be sent to applicants directly.
- Awards must be utilized within one year of receipt and are restricted to the specific play therapy training or course for which they were awarded. In the event the award cannot be used, applicants should notify the Foundation immediately. Awards may not be transferred to another course or program unless specifically approved by the Foundation.

Applicants may not apply for multiple programs at the same time. If awarded a scholarship, awardees may not apply for additional scholarship funding for two years from the date they were awarded the initial scholarship.
How to Apply?
Individuals interested in applying for a scholarship must complete the Synergetic Play Therapy Foundation Scholarship Application. All questions must be answered fully to be considered. Once the application is submitted, applicants will receive a confirmation email from the SPTF.
The scholarship application award process is conducted by the scholarship committee. This is a blind process, meaning that names and other identifying information are removed from all applications during the review.
Please note: The Synergetic Play Therapy Foundation is a separate entity from the Synergetic Play Therapy Institute (SPTI). All scholarship-related questions must be directed to the Foundation by emailing foundation@synergeticplaytherapy.com.
