This course will draw on lecture and class discussion to support a developing understanding of how to work with trauma in children from a somatic perspective. Although this course is geared towards children, the content is applicable to clients of all ages. Weaving together principles from interpersonal neurobiology, polyvagal theory, and Synergetic Play Therapy, students will learn how to become a child’s external regulator to support the integration of their traumatic experience, as well as how to re-pattern the dysregulated states in a child’s nervous system.
